This first painting happens to be of a reindeer, which I painted onto the back page (chipboard square) of the Rebel Sprout mini album. When I was practicing sketching these winter characters (owls, penguins, snowmen, etc.), the reindeer was definitely the most difficult for me. As it turns out - I love it! I have LOTS more to learn and skills to practice...hopefully this and the next several posts will show progress!

Stepping out of my comfort zone....
Hi! Shelly here....So, if you know anything about me, you probably know I LOVE creating just about anything, but particularly, mixed media. Though in all my years of creating and designing mixed media mini albums, I have never actually painted my own sketched drawing...I've never sketched! I have been an admirer of those whimsical painting styles for years and Christy Tomlinson is one of my fav's. SOOOOOOOO - when I saw that she was offering a new class called Whimsy Winter I jumped at the chance! So here is the step-by-step process of my first painting. Don't hold your breath - mine is nothing to write home about, but the entire learning process has been very satisfying and freeing...

Some Punky and PageMaps love!
So, I've been awfully quiet....very busy these days! I did take a day off last weekend to work on some design projects for PageMaps.com. Here is a layout I made...I used the 12x12 Punky Playground which I painted with iridescent acrylic base with just a touch of some cream-colored mist. I cut off the top layer of the corrugated cardboard to reveal the corrugations, giving it a striped, anodized aluminum look. I used the DCWV paper from the Black Currant line with hot pink, silver and black metallic. I also embellished with some shimmery bugle beads. I absolutely love anything in pink and black! I hope you like it! For more inspiration, look at all the page designs here!

Safari Boy Punky-style....or is it a new dessert recipe???
This is my altered Junk In My Punk with Safari Boy....LOVED making this album with all the glitter and the yummmmy colors...orange sherbet and lemon chiffon with baby blue and dark chocolate brown (sounds vaguely like dessert)!
The monkeys, lions, giraffes, elephants and crocs are all so adorable! First off, I removed the pages of the book from the binding to work on them more easily. I misted the canvas page and some manila tags ((with a combination of Shimmerz Vibez (Sunset Strip) and Tattered Angels Mists (Banana Pudding Chalkboard & Mimosa) and set them aside to dry. Then I inked the edges of the remaining pages with Staz-0n ink in Timber Brown, including approx 1/2" along the spine edges. I cut out the Palm tree scenes from the papers for several pages, including the front cover leaving the natural corrugated board to be the backdrop. On the remaining pages I covered with patterned cardstock, added some photo mats with the backside coordinates, making pockets out of some of the mats (I LOVE double-sided cardstock for this)! For the acrylic tag pages, I didn't do much other than adding a border, as they will fit a 4" picture perfectly. Then I embellished with the cute cut-out Titles and Journaling tags, added some chipboard pieces, ribbons, tulle and tags. The cardstock comes all glittered and is SO adorable and shimmery....it really doesn't need much to embellish! This book was made as a baby shower gift, so there are no pics...thanks for looking!

TaDa !
Last weekend was the annual "holy day" for Scrapbookers...with gatherings in homes, large venues, online...you name it..more events than almost imaginable! I was at just such an event. This is our collective version of annual wear-camo-pass-the-ammunition "hunt." However, it became a much more somber celebration when I received news that one of our Punky Sprouts design-team members suffered a tragedy of the worst kind: an event that threatened the life of her precious little boy. A seemingly innocent moment of fun on a playground took an about-face in an instant and his life hung in the balance. This brave mom performed CPR on her own child prior to being flown by Life Flight to OHSU Hospital. When I heard this, my heart flipped nearly out of my chest...knees weak and I literally felt like I was going to throw up.....Dear God do NOT let this boy die! Don't do that to her - it is too much to bear....
When I returned home I called the hospital....where to my awe, the operator stated that this little guy was discharged home! Dear, dear God - there are not words to express the awesome miracle YOU performed. This verse has been running in my head for the past few days: "Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God! I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." I honestly don't remember the reference of this verse, but over and over again these words have given me comfort and strength in the worst of circumstances.
With that intro.... not the best mojo inspired scrapbooking I have done, but here is my cute little Teenie Beanie Sprout!
